Being Better Than Your Old Self

htwfaip”The way to get things done,” says  [Charles] Schwab, “is to stimulate competition. I do not mean in a sordid, money-getting way, but in the desire to excel.”

Ran our of characters for me to post this on Twitter so I’m posting it here.

Thought this was a cool quote.

Competing to be better than who you are.

From a book I’m reading again by Dale Carnegie, How to Win Friends and Influence People.

Thank you.

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

I love you.

“You Are The Average Of The Top Five People You Spend Most Of Your Time With.” – Jim Rohn

I don’t think you should deny yourself the release that comes from venting.

But don’t make it a habit.

Otherwise you will lose a lot of your blog readers that way.

Venting identifies the problem.

So now that you have IDed the problem, what’s the solution?

I read some where that some women vent to be heard, not that they are looking for a solution from you.

I think that’s weird, but then again men have a nothing box.

I think that’s weirder.

I’m going off topic again.

What I’m saying is that the things you put in your head will show in the kind of attitude you have.

If your head is in the gutter, then your attitude will stink.

Your attitude is something that might be hard to monitor with all the junk we are surrounded with.

From external influences like the news, TV and shitty friends and family who do more to pull you down than to lift you up.

The environment you’re in plays an important role in your thinking.

And I think, for the most part, you do have control over your environment.

Thank you.

I love you.

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

You Ever Noticed The Voices In Your Head?

Success lies outside your comfort zone.

I don’t know what that means for you, but for me this means that if what I am doing now is not producing the things you I want, then I might need to do the uncomfortable stuff that will give me the results I want.

Should you want different results then you do the uncomfortable to produce the new results that you want.

Self talk contributions to your current results.

It’s the words you tell yourself in your brain that lead to the actions you take.

And it’s from these actions that produce the results in your life.

So it hit me that if I use affirmations to influence the actions I take, then I might get the results I’m looking for.

Affirmations are just words you tell yourself.

The jive is that most, maybe not you but I am a victim of this, tell ourselves negative things most of the time.

Things that stop you from change.

I don’t know why hey…

…maybe it’s from people we associate most with or the TV we watch or the news we read or the Presidents we elect.

So now we are led to think that the world is negative.

That’s were things like affirmations come to play.

They interrupt the negative patterns we play in our minds and inject it with something positive.

I’m sure you can do your own research about how to structure your affirmations.

And then you can just repeat the phrase to program yourself into getting what you desire.

Phrases like the ones Bob Proctor used, author of You Were Born Rich: I am so happy and grateful now that… (this is were you list your desire).

In a nutshell, positive affirmations help you with moving out of your comfort zone.

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.

You Ever Saw A Scary Movie?

Making a habit of sidelining your life goals because of how hard achieving them will be is a bad habit.

Rather find yourself within the field that runs hand in hand with what you ultimately want in life, even if at the time the pay isn’t good.

Your initial sacrifices coupled with your desire to achieve and succeed in your life’s passion will eventually pay off.

Living life short selling yourself will only lead to regret in your late years.

Rather live a challenging life fighting for your dreams.

Than a quiet one with no stories to tell your grand kids.

I don’t want to be a boring, poor granddad living with my daughter.

Talk about a scary movie.

I love you.
I’m sorry.
Please forgive me.
Thank you.

Can You Stand The Rain?

I remember writing a post about avoiding pushing away your down days.

We can’t be working at peak levels all the time.

24/7.

365.

But moods can be managed.

And do agree with Tony Robbins on listing out things that trigger your feel good mood.

Especially what you do with your body when you are happy.

Music does it for me.

Listening to Pro, who once known as ProKid, does it for me.

But Rihanna‘s song a doing for me as well lately.

It’s kinda hard checking out her music videos though.

With so much ass and boobs you could swear you’re watching porn.

Maybe America is de-sensitized by nudity.

Hey, sex sales I guess…I was under the impression that it’s her talent, skill, hard work that’s making her stay on top of her game.

Maybe it’s because I don’t watch porn anymore after watching this Porn Experiment.

I digress.

So physically, to trigger my feel good vibes:

  • I have my shoulders back,
  • eyes are wider,
  • I move my hands a lot,
  • I smile,
  • I speak louder and faster,
  • I lean forward when I talk,
  • I make more eye contact,
  • my face is more animated,
  • take deeper breathes and expand my fingers.

But that’s me, I don’t know about you.

My challenge to you is to find a way to decode your body into tricking your brain into feeling good.

So when you feeling offish, there’s a chance you are shooting off your “offish triggers.”

Namely:

  • slouching shoulders,
  • short quick breaths,
  • sleepy eyes,
  • frowning,
  • closed off body language,
  • crossed eye brows,
  • feet dragging.

There a lot of things eternally that we can’t change, focused on what you can.

I found life is easier that way.

I love you.

I’m sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

You Have To Be Intentional

I am busy reading this book and there was a sentence that impacted me.

About how every process leads to a result.

How your current inactivity will lead to a certain result at the end of the month.

How your current activity will lead to certain results at the end of the month.

So in other words starting at the end and working your way back, to where you are now, is a good way to plan and achieve your goals.

That way you can begin now in doing the things and following the processes that will get you to where you want to be.

We all follow processes or habits that produce the results we get in our lives.

If you want to smell clean and fresh, you follow certain habits that produce that result…that being bathing, body spray and brushing your teeth.

If you don’t want to keep your job, then you can try out these habits, namely: show up late, you not meeting company’s target, behaving rudely to colleagues and clients.

And that’s a set of habits that will successfully get you fired.

So you could say everyone is successful, because even failing can be seen as something you can be successful in.

This due to the kind of habits you are successfully practicing.

If you want the results that your current habits of failure brings, keep applying those habits.

But if you want different results, then you should follow the process that will help you achieve them.

Success and failure are two sides of the same coin.

Sometimes we leave our success to the flip of a coin.

And call it luck.

Those who are wise enough to ask from those who have walked the path, so to make things easier for you.

By adopting their habits of success.

You follow the process and you will achieve the result that comes from your work.

In short, you are in control of the results you are getting in your life.

It’s a matter of being intentional about it.

I love you.

Thank you.

Raising Your Standards Changes Your Reality

In his book Awaken The Giant Within, Mr Anthony Robbins mentioned how I should raise my standards as part of the process of changing my life for the better.

A point I am beginning to agree with especially with the stench I have to endure on most mornings when I pass through Bree Taxi Rank.

One of two of the major transportation hubs in Johannesburg that offers commutters public transport to various destinations.

It didn’t use to bother me much, the stench of piss, decay, litter, ponds of sewerage I need to skip over…now that I think about it…it should have…

But now that I am reaching a point in my life when things are slowing down and take the time to take in my environment,  I’m getting picky with some of the things my mind gets exposed to.

I am changing what I used to see as acceptable.

And I will work on taking charge of more things in my life and being deliberate on what I exposed myself on a regular basis.

Bree not being one of them.

I am sorry.

Please forgive me.

Thank you.

I love you.
